Creativity, compassion and change is how I try to live my life inside + outside of the salon. I have navigated my professional life uncertain of where I belong until now. My path over the last 20+ years has included the culinary world, corporate America and now 9 years in the salon industry. Being apart of the Fulton Neighborhood with both E+L Salon and my personal home has now made everything feel natural, real and full.
What led me to becoming a salon owner is simply the freedom to be in charge of my future and live within my full creative freedom. Constant transformation (big or small) and personal evolvement is how I feel confident I will provide you with a positive experience at E+L.
The guests + our vision at the salon brings me excitement in a way I never knew existed. Mapping out the future of your hair over a hot cup of local coffee and conversation brings me so much joy and comfort. I am here to welcome you all on a beautiful journey, where amazing hair is only the beginning.

TRUE SELF: Plant based everything, Fur Baby Lover, Co-Founder of The Lauren Book Club, True Virgo + Friend for life
My creative journey began with studying modern dance at the University of Michigan. I learned a lot about discipline and hard work through my dance studies. Though I wanted to pursue a different career path I knew it had to be in an industry that thrives on change and growth. This lead me to Douglas J Aveda institute in Ann Arbor, Mi. From there I moved to Chicago and worked as a stylist for Art + Science Salon for five years.
While at Art + Science I finished a two year training program in hair cutting and received training from industry leaders such as Bumble and Bumble + American Crew. For me this solidified the importance of education and continuing to evolve as a creative.
After returning to Michigan + working at two salons in Grand Rapids I’m excited to open a salon where education is a focus + a way to bring something new to my clients + the community. After 10+ years in the industry I've come to understand that I have the confidence to bring my vision to life. My goal is to never stop growing as a stylist + a human. I hope E+L can become an educational hub not only for the stylists who work here but for all Grand Rapids creatives.

Coming from a family of women that are self proclaimed tomboys, a path in the beauty industry is not what anyone expected. However, my passion kept shining through + I couldn’t resist what would be a beautiful future. My persistence in achieving my goal to become a cosmetologist finally paid off after spending two years studying psychology at Central Michigan University.
After attending cosmetology school in Flint, I started my career in Mt. Pleasant where my interest in hair color and bridal makeup really took off. After a few years at my first salon, I moved to Grand Rapids to further my career in a fast paced environment. It has taken some time to discover both what I want and need in a salon and in that time, I’ve fine tuned my skills and have continued my education both in salon and out. I’m excited to work in a career that is still fun seven years later and I’m blessed to have found an environment that I feel my talents will grow and flourish.
Working in a salon with values that closely align with my own is very important to me. I feel I’ve found that at E+L and can’t wait to share it with all of my guests!

TRUE SELF: Photography, Hiking with Tilly, Road Trips with Megan + Reading
California Heart. Michigan Girl. Growing up in Northern California inspired + drew out my love for creativity + individuality. Attending university for a major in art with a focus in photography really launched my appreciation for everything beautiful. Valuing how quickly life changes, I ended up moving to Nashville to attend Cosmetology School. I graduated in 2011 and pursued my career of beauty in San Francisco + Sacramento. This is where I started to learn + develop a deep understanding for leading + managing people in the industry from the talented stylists around me. Just as I was settling, an amazing opportunity popped up + there I was heading to Australia. Who in their right mind would turn that down?! Am I right?! So there I continued to sharpen my skills as a stylist all while staring at the ocean. In my free time exploring the cities + beach towns consumed the rest of my days and I was completely cool with that.
Although Australia was wonderful, it was there I realized doing hair wasn’t actually my passion, it was managing people. So I packed up and headed home to focus on what I was going to do next, which was nothing I had ever imagined. Sure, I loved surprises + loved to see the world, but reconnecting with the love of my life after 4 years apart and heading to The Mitten hadn’t crossed my mind. It was there I would marry Megan and put down roots in Holland. Winters were brutal, but living on the lakeshore brought me such peace I have started to overlook them. I would spend the next 4 years as an Admission Leader at Paul Mitchell School. In my role I would help guide hundreds of students into their career paths as stylists. It was then I noticed E+L was hiring and I had to reach out. Working in a loving + supportive environment was just what I was looking for so I joined the team in April 2019 as General Manager. Working alongside such talented, creative + inclusive stylists keeps my job interesting + ever changing. My wife + I are very excited for what our next year will bring as we are in the process of adopting a child...stay tuned.

TRUE SELF: Foodie, Authentic Conversation + Relationships, Lover of all Things Hair + Makeup, Queer, Listener + Empath
I found hairdressing after my first year at a traditional university came to a close. After my first day of hair school, I knew the beauty industry was where I belonged. My first two years in the industry were spent in an assistant program filled with education + knowledge. Three years after that, I found myself craving more connection with a salon family and E+L came my way.
My free time is spent reading a good non-fiction book, cooking and spending time with my little family. My fiance Elyssa & I are tying the knot in October of 2020. We couldn’t be more happy + excited to celebrate our love with the people who mean the most in our lives. Our cat Violet is our only baby for the time being and we love her to pieces.
The most rewarding part of doing hair is the authentic connection and conversation I have with the guests who sit in my chair. People and their individual stories are why I love what I do. Helping them elevate the best versions of themselves is what makes my heart happy + continues my passion in the industry. There is nothing more fulfilling for me than turning a guest around in the chair and seeing their faces light up. Working in a safe + inclusive environment makes me + my guests feel at home. For me, that is a life worth living.
